RAS Exam 2025: Rajasthan Administrative Service

The RAS full form is Rajasthan Administrative Service; it is a state civil service job post conducted by the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC). The RAS exam is used to select candidates for various administrative positions in the state of Rajasthan, including District Collector, Deputy Collector, and other senior administrative positions.

Preliminary Examination

The preliminary examination is a screening test that will consist of one paper holding a total of 200 marks. The pre-examination is an objective type (multiple-choice questions).

The paper will be of a bachelor’s degree level, covering the General Knowledge & General Science section, and the total duration of the examination is 3 hours.

Main examination

The main examination is a written type examination that covers four papers in total, each worth 200 marks, and the time allotted for each examination is 3 hours. The main examination focuses on descriptive or analytical-type questions.

  • Paper I (General Knowledge and General Studies) of the exam covers topics such as history, economics, sociology, management, accounting, and auditing.
  • Paper II (General Knowledge and General Studies) covers Administrative Ethics, General Science & Technology and Earth Science (Geography & Geology)
  •  Paper III (General Knowledge and General Studies) has questions related to topics like the Indian Political System, World Politics and Current Affairs, Concepts, Issues and Dynamics of Public Administration and Management, Sports and Yoga, and Behavior and Law.
  • General Hindi and General English papers of the exam will be of 12th standard.

Selection criteria

To be eligible to take the personality and viva voce exams, candidates appearing in the main exam must receive at least 10% in each paper and 15% overall from the total scores of all the papers in the main exam.

Applicants who belong to Scheduled Castes or Scheduled Tribes will receive a 5% relaxation in these minimum grade requirements.

Education Qualification

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited university is a minimum requirement for the examination.

Age limit

Applicants applying for the RPSC RAS examination then must attain the age range of 21 to 40 years.

Age relaxation

  • Male candidates who belong to SC, ST, backward classes, more backward classes or an economically weaker section of Rajasthan state have an age relaxation of 5 years. Whereas the women who are from the same category can have the age relaxation on the upper age limit of maximum 10 years.
Age Relaxation for RAS Exam 2025
  • Women candidates in the general category can avail of the age relaxation up to 5 years.
  • Applicants who fall under the category of person with benchmark disabilities as per the Rajasthan Rights of Persons with Disabilities Rules 2018 have the age relaxation of 5 years.
  • For those working in substantive capacities related to state affairs, the maximum age is 45 years old.
  • Candidates working in a substantive capacity pertaining to Zila Parishad affairs and Panchayat Samities must be at least 45 years old.
  • For those working in substantive capacities for state public sector undertakings or corporations, the upper age limit is 40 years old.
  • As per the Rajasthan Civil Services (Absorption of Ex-Servicemen) Rules 1988, the state will be allowed to relax the upper age limit by 10 years for services and 15 years for subordinate services to former service members; however, in the event of direct hiring, experience is also necessary.

Ex-servicemen in lower positions will be granted a relaxation in age equal to the duration of experience required for the lower position.

In addition to the relaxation in age already provided by these rules;

  •  The upper age limit of 50 years will apply if the permissible age after relaxation under this rule turns out to be more than 50 years; however, the maximum upper age limit of 53 years will apply in the event of direct recruitment where experience in a lower position is required.

Application fees for the candidate applying for RPSC RAS (Rajasthan Administrative Service) vary as per the categories listed below:

  • General (unreserved), Backward Class Creamy Layer, and most Backward Class Creamy Layer need to submit the application fees of Rs. 600.
  • Applicants who are reservation class (SC, ST, Backward classes-non creamy layer, most backward classes-non creamy layer and economical weaker section.) need to pay the application fees of Rs. 400
  • A candidate with a person with a disability condition needs to submit the application fee of Rs. 400.
