Eligibilty Criteria & Exam Pattern for various defence jobs

1. NDA (National Defence Academy) Exam

The NDA (National Defence Academy) exam is a very popular exam by which young men & women that have passed 12th Class, can get the job of a Permanent Commission Officer in the Indian Armed Forces. This exam is conducted by the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission), and it happens two times every year. It gives a chance to candidates to fulfil their dream of joining the Army, Navy, or Air Force as a Class 1 Offi cer.

Eligibility Criteria for NDA exam is

  • Age should be between 5 to 19.5 years
  • Qualification required for it is 12th pass.
  • Both male & female candidates are eligibile to apply

Exam Pattern

  • Maths exam will be of 300 marks
  • General Ability Test (GAT) will be of 600 marks
  • SSB Interview is of 900 marks

Important Dates for NDA Exam

NDA I Exam: Notification will likely release in December 2024, and exam will happen in April 2025

NDA II Exam: Notification will likely release in June 2025, and exam will happen in September 2025

2. CDS (Combined Defence Services) Exam

The CDS (Combined Defence Services) Exam is a way for graduates to join in the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Air Force Academy (AFA), Indian Naval Academy (INA ), and Officers’ Training Academy (OTA) and then get commissioned in the Armed Forces as a Class 1 Officer. This exam is conducted by the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission), and it happens two times every year

Eligibility Criteria for CDS exam is

  • Age should be between 19 to 25 years
  • Qualification required for it Graduation with any stream.
  • Both male & female candidates can apply for OTA. But for IMA, INA, & AFA only male candidates can apply.

Exam Pattern

  • For INA, IMA, and AFA there will be exam of English, General Knowledge, and Mathematics, all subjects will be 100 marks each.
  • And for OTA only English & General Knowledge subject exam will take place.
  • SSB Interview for INA, IMA, and AFA is of 300 marks. And it is 200 marks for OTA.

Important Dates for CDS Exam

CDS I Exam: Notification will likely release in December 2024, and exam will happen in April 2025.

CDS II Exam: Notification will likely release in June 2025, and exam will happen in September 2025.

3. AFCAT (Air Force Common Admission Test) Exam

The AFCAT (Air Force Common Admission Test) Exam is for joining the Indian Air Force as officers in flying, and ground duty (technical and non-technical) branches.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Age for Flying Branch is from 20 to 24 years, and for Ground Duty it is 20 to 26 years (Ground duty branches)
  • Should have Physics & Maths as subjects in Class 12th for flying branch and at graduation the aggregate marks should be 60%.
  • Both male & female candidates can apply

 Exam Pattern

  • Exam is of 300 marks and there are a total of 100 questions.
  • SSB Interview mars will be based on the branch you have applied for.

Important Dates for AFCAT Exam

AFCAT I Exam: Notification will likely release in December 2024, and exam will happen in February 2025

AFCAT II Exam: Notification will likely release in June 2025, and exam will happen in August 2025

4. Agniveer Exam

The Agniveer scheme, is for entry-level opportunity for candidates to serve for a 4 years tenure the Indian Armed Forces. The candidates can apply for various roles in the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Age should be from from 17.5 to 21 years.
  • Should have passed 10th Class or 12th Class based on the role.
  • Both male & female candidates can apply

Exam Pattern

  • Written test patter will be diiferent based on whether you applied for Army or Navy or Airofrce.
  • Physical test will be done which will include running, pull-up and long-jump
  • Detailed medical check-up will be done after passing physical test.

Important Dates for Agniveer Exam

Notification will likely release in early 2025 and exam will happen in mid-2025.
